What cardiology here actually involves

Most people arrive because something felt wrong — a flutter that would not settle, tightness on the stairs, a blood pressure reading a GP did not like. The first appointment runs forty minutes and is mostly listening.

If you need testing it usually happens the same week, and often the same visit. Echo, ECG and stress testing are done in our own labs at Pearl District and Lloyd Center, which is why results come back inside a day instead of a fortnight — and the cardiologist who ordered the study reads it themselves.

Ongoing care stays with one cardiologist rather than whoever is on the rota that week. Your GP, your pharmacist and your cardiologist all read the same record, so nobody is reconstructing what changed and when.

Six things that happen in this department

Everything below is done at Medice. Nothing here is sent out to a third party you have never heard of.

Echocardiogram
An ultrasound of the heart, done in our own lab. About thirty minutes, no preparation and no needles. Your cardiologist reads it the same day and the report is in your portal before you are home.
Exercise stress testing
Walking on a treadmill while we watch your ECG and blood pressure. Bring trainers. It takes about an hour including the settling-down period, and you will know the headline result before you leave.
24-hour and 14-day rhythm monitoring
A small patch or recorder you wear home. The 14-day patch is posted to you and posted back; the 24-hour monitor is fitted here. Both are read in-house, not by an outside reporting service.
Cardioversion
A planned, sedated procedure to put an irregular rhythm back to normal. You will need someone to take you home. It is booked with an anaesthetist and takes most of a morning.
Pacemaker and ICD checks
Routine device interrogation, roughly every six months, plus remote monitoring between visits. Twenty minutes, no undressing, and the technician talks you through what the readout says.
Coronary angiography and referral for intervention
We do the diagnostic imaging and the decision-making here. Where a stent or surgery is needed, that happens at our partner hospital and your cardiologist stays involved through it.

What to expect, step by step

  1. Before you come

    Bring your current medicines, or a photo of the boxes. If another clinic holds your records, say so when you book and we will request them.

  2. Checking in

    Arrive ten minutes early. Check in at the desk or on your phone. Once you are checked in, the average wait is eleven minutes.

  3. With the cardiologist

    Forty minutes. History, examination, and an ECG in the room if it helps. Anything further is booked before you leave the building.

  4. After the visit

    Notes, results and the plan reach your portal the same day. Your GP gets the same letter automatically, not a summary.

The five we are asked most

Anything not answered here, ask when you book — the person on the phone is a nurse, not a call centre.

Do I need a referral to see a cardiologist?
No. Book directly. If your GP is at Medice the note is already on your record; if they are elsewhere, tell us when you book and we will request your history before the appointment.
How long will I wait for a first appointment?
Nine days is the current average for a routine new patient. Urgent cases are seen sooner — if a GP has flagged your referral as urgent, we will usually offer something inside forty-eight hours.
Will I get my results the same day?
For an ECG and most echocardiograms, yes — the cardiologist reads them in the room or shortly after. Stress tests and CT take up to 24 hours, and the report lands in your portal as soon as it is signed.
Is the echocardiogram done at the same visit?
Usually. Pearl District and Lloyd Center have the scanner on site, so if the cardiologist decides you need one, we look for a slot the same morning before you leave.
What happens if I need something you do not do here?
Angioplasty, stenting and cardiac surgery happen at our partner hospital. Your Medice cardiologist arranges it, keeps reading your record throughout, and sees you afterwards.
