Clinical philosophy
The rhythm you feel and the rhythm we record
Half of electrophysiology is catching the episode. A monitor worn on the wrong week records a fortnight of nothing, so the first appointment is mostly about when your symptoms actually happen.
Not every abnormal rhythm needs treating. Plenty of ectopy is harmless, and being told so — with the trace on the screen — ends more distress than any drug.
When ablation is the right answer she says so early rather than working through three drugs first. Delay is not caution when the evidence points one way.
