Clinical philosophy
Most chest pain is not the heart
The useful thing a cardiologist does on a first visit is usually a clear no. Sending someone away with a reason they can repeat to their family is a better outcome than a stress test nobody needed.
Risk is a number, and he shows it. A ten-year figure on the screen beside what changes it moves more decisions than an instruction to eat better ever has.
He does not stack investigations. If the echo will not change the plan, he says what would, and books that instead.
